Theory
The add2 chord combines major third and major second. C add2 = C-D-E-G, G add2 = G-A-B-D. Unlike sus2 which replaces the third, add2 keeps it, creating a denser sound. The proximity between the second and third (2 semitones) creates a characteristic harmonic color.
