Theory
The 7♯11 chord is the IV degree of the melodic minor scale. C7♯11 = C-E-G-B♭-D-F♯. The augmented eleventh (18 semitones, or augmented fourth at octave) avoids clashing with the third and creates characteristic Lydian color. Widely used on static dominant chords in modal jazz.
