Theory

The 7♯5 chord raises the fifth by a semitone. G7♯5 = G-B-D♯-F, C7♯5 = C-E-G♯-B♭. The augmented fifth adds chromatic tension to the tritone already present between the third and seventh. This chord creates a double resolution: the augmented fifth rises by a semitone and the tritone resolves.
